Racecourse Sales Gallop Ahead For Gems
An animal-friendly disinfectant from leading cleaning product specialist, Sheffield’s Gems Hygiene, is proving to be odds on favourite with the nation’s horse racing community.
Gems is supplying Gemexol, a low toxicity disinfectant powder, to 17 racecourses across the country – almost a third of all horse racing courses in the UK.
The disinfectant has proved a hit with some of the most prestigious venues in the racing calendar, including Goodwood, York and Doncaster, due to its economical dilution rates and wide-ranging uses. It can be applied to treatment boxes as well as stable blocks and is non-corrosive to galvanised metals, giving off oxygen when mixed with water rather than hypochloride.
Gems has achieved the British Horseracing Authority’s seal of approval for Gemexol and the cleaning agent meets Department of Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) standards for use around animals, preventing the spread of foot and mouth, general orders, diseases of poultry, parvovirus, canine hepatitis and feline enteritis.
Sarah Wade, Gems marketing manager, said: “Racecourses use gallons of disinfectant, particularly at foaling time, which means they need a cleaner that is economical, versatile and most importantly, safe for use around horses. Gemexol fits the bill perfectly on all three counts and we are receiving really positive feedback from clients in this sector. Despite holding an already generous stake in the racecourse market, we are confident this is an area we can build on and expand our reach further.”
