Gems Highlights the Need to Prepare for Flood Clean-Up
As weather forecasters predict more heavy rain across the UK, Sheffield’s Gems Hygiene is urging businesses to ensure potential summer floods cause minimum disruption.
Gems is highlighting the need for companies in flood prone areas to stock up on the cleaning equipment required to deal with water damage, so trade can resume as quickly as possible.
Sarah Wade, Gems marketing manager, said: “Following a wide-spread flood, suitable cleaning products are in particularly high demand. The organisations that are up and running the fastest are those that have the right equipment on site to start the clear-up as soon as the water subsides.”
According to the Health Protection Agency, one of the main health hazards associated with a flood is the stress and strain of the event and the subsequent clean-up.
Gems stocks a range of products that meet the Health Protection Agency’s recommendations for cleaning commercial and industrial areas affected by flood water. They include Combat and Combat Plus, powerful disinfectants that eradicate mould and are safe to use on all kitchen surfaces, Gem Wash detergent, Laundry Sanitiser and Bleach Tablets.
The agency recommends that any hard surface touched by flood water is cleaned thoroughly with an appropriate detergent, paying particular attention to food preparation areas, including the inside of refrigeration units and cupboards. Soft furnishings should be laundered on a high temperature and anything that cannot be washed should be thrown away.
